Moga Ace Power first iOS 7 game controller launched

The first ever iOS 7-optimised iPhone game controller, the Moga Ace Power, has been revealed.

We saw the iPhone gaming peripheral leaked less than a month ago, but the Moga Ace Power has now been officially launched.

The device is compatible with iPhone 5S, iPhone 5, iPhone 5C, and iPod touch 5th generation. Essentially, any non-iPad device with a Lightning port.

Coming back to the pad itself, it’s a serious piece of gaming kit. Placing the emphasis on fine control over subtlety, it essentially resembles an Xbox 360 pad, split in half (though there is a connecting slider) and placed either side of the iOS device.

This means that, in addition to four face buttons, four trigger buttons and a D-pad, you also get a pair of console-like analogue sticks. There’s also a headphone jack for discrete gaming, a battery indicator button, as well as a pause button and an iPhone lock switch.

In addition, the Moga Ace Power comes with Moga Boost – essentially its own battery pack that can recharge a connected iPhone. If you’ve experienced the dramatic drain caused by  gaming on a recent iPhone, you’ll know what a blessing this could prove to be.

A number of games have received gamepad support since the launch of iOS 7, which comes with all-new APIs to help developers with such things. Big hitters like Bastion, Dead Trigger 2, Oceanhorn and Asphalt 8 promise to give you a console-like (or at least handheld-like) experience with a Moga Ace Power or similar hooked up.

The Moga Ace Power is listed as ‘Coming Soon’ on the official Moga website, where you can sign up for availability updates. It will cost $99 (£61).

Peripheral king Logitech is also said to be developing a range of iOS 7 gamepads.
