Misfit’s Speedo Shine 2 is the ideal activity tracker for swimmers

Misfit has launched the second generation of its Speedo Shine activity tracker, designed to help swimmers improve their form.

The new Speedo Shine 2 is thinner than its predecessor and comes with a range of new features to provide more detailed feedback.

Along with the ‘proprietary lap-counting algorithms’ which appeared in the first Speedo Shine, you now get a vibration motor and multicolour lights which allow for what the company calls ‘multifaceted user feedback’.

That basically means, aside from counting laps, you’ll be able to get vibration alerts when it’s time to take a dip, check your progress using the lights, and get call and text notifications.

There’s also a silent vibe alarm, plus you can use the wearable as a music remote and as a way of controlling a range of smart home devices through Misfit Link.

Team Speedo USA athlete and four-time Olympic medallist Cullen Jones said: “Whether you’re training competitively or swimming for fitness, you want your focus to be on speed and form – not tracking laps.

“With the Speedo Shine 2, you can concentrate on your efforts in the pool without distractions. Speedo Shine 2 is an ideal aid for athletes and fitness enthusiasts to maximise their time in the water while keeping track of their overall fitness and sleep.”

Just like the Speedo Shine, the new device is waterproof up to 50 metres and works with the misfit app for iOS and Android to show lap-count and calories burned.

It also works with the Speedo app, ‘Speedo Fit’, and offers dramatically improved touch responsiveness, faster syncing and extended Bluetooth range.

And for those looking to use their activity tracker outside of the pool, the Speedo Shine 2 also tracks walking, running, cycling, and light and deep sleep.

Along with the launch of the new device, Misfit will now let Misfit Shine 2 and Misfit Ray owners use their wearables with the swim-tracking and lap-counting tech. You’ll have to pay for the extra functionality through an in-app purchase, though.

You can pick up the Speedo Shine 2 now on misfit.com and speedo.com for £89.99 and the devices will start shipping within 2-3 weeks of ordering.
