Mojang has announced Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition will launch in beta form on July 29, alongside Microsoft’s new operating system.
A brand new Windows 10 version of Minecraft is coming later this month, as a step towards converging all the versions of the game into one major platform.
Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition beta will be free to download for anyone already using the PC version, or $10 (approx. £6.40) for anyone else.
This new edition is separate to the existing PC build and will offer online and local multiplayer with anyone using the Minecraft: Pocket Edition. That’s the version that’s available on Windows Phone, iOS and Android.
Controller, touch and keyboard controls will all be supported, along with up to eight-player co-operative multiplayer via local play or Xbox Live.
We’re hoping that future versions of the Minecraft Windows 10 Edition will play nice with Xbox 360 and Xbox One for multiplayer, and potentially even PlayStation platforms too.

Mojang has already confirmed a few gameplay features for Minecraft Windows 10 Edition. For example, the game will add dual-wielding support and the ability to select a dominant hand for the first time.
There’s also enchanted arrows and shields en-route for Minecraft too.
The alternative dimension, The End, is also getting a revamp with the upcoming Windows 10 Edition with a new End City location that will offer parkour opportunities.
You’ll have to make use of the new Shulker enemies and their levitation-causing fire to reach far off enemies though.
