Minecraft username change option coming soon

A Minecraft username change option is coming soon, according to a teaser from developer Mojang.

Minecraft gamers will soon be able to change their username after an upcoming update is released at an unknown date.

This news comes via Mojang developer Kristoffer Jelbring who tweeted an image of the username change option with the caption: “Teaser. #minecraft”.

Jelbring added that Mojang and owner Microsoft would “hopefully” be able to release more information later this week.

The information available on the official Minecraft support page states that the ability to change your username “will not be available before Minecraft version 1.8”.

But it also goes on to say that “this does not mean that 1.8 is the release date for the username change feature”.

Users will be limited to a certain number of username changes within a specific time period, but the option to change your username will be free of charge.

“We do not yet support changing or editing usersnames, though this is planned for the future. We do not have a set release date for this feature,” adds the official Minecraft support page.

The username change option has not been available to players since the Minecraft alpha release back in mid-2009.

Late last month Mojang and Telltale Games announced Minecraft: Story Mode.

The game will be a narrative-driven episodic experience not unlike Telltale Games other titles, including The Walking Dead and the recent Game of Thrones.

Minecraft: Story Mode will be an original story driven by player choice when it is released later this year.
