Microsoft Office 2019 is now available in preview

Microsoft has released the first preview version of Office 2019 to Windows 10 business users.

Commercial customers can download the preview suite, which features Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Publisher, Access, Project, Visio and OneNote, from today.

Preview versions of Exchange, SharePoint, Project Server and Skype for Business 2019 will be released in the coming months. Mac users can also expect some love soon.

This launch of the Microsoft Office 2019 Commercial Preview marks the first version of the heralded productivity suite that’s available only to Windows 10 users.

Interestingly, that means those folks still clinging onto Windows 7 (or earlier, or later) won’t be able to access the next version of Office, but Mac users will.

Office 2019

In a blog post on Monday, the Office GM Jared Spataro wrote: “Office 2019 delivers new features to help end users create amazing content in less time. Updates include new and improved inking features across the apps, like the roaming pencil case, pressure sensitivity, and tilt effects; more powerful data analysis in Excel, like new formulas, new charts, and Power BI integration; and sophisticated presentation features in PowerPoint, like Morph and Zoom.

“These features are already included in Office 365 ProPlus but are not available in Office 2016. For a longer list of the new end-user features, see the FAQs.”

It’s interesting that Microsoft has pointed out that many of these features are already available in Office 365.

That makes clear the firm would probably prefer commercial customers to subscribers to the online version of Office, rather than buy the desktop version outright.

At least the company is still giving its commercial customers the option…
