Microsoft could bring its Movies & TV service to Android and iOS

Microsoft is working on a Movies & TV application for Android and iOS to rival Apple’s iTunes and Google’s Play Movies & TV services, according to a new report.

Windows Central has learned that Windows is toying around with the idea of bringing its somewhat popular Movies & TV platform, which is currently available on PC, Windows 10 Mobile and Xbox, to both Android and iOS in the not-too-distant future.

The demand is there, the outlet’s sources claim, because Movies & TV was a hit among Windows fans before it even arrived in the Windows Store, earning a place on the table of the most-searched applications not listed on Microsoft’s marketplace.

The sources then went on to note that Microsoft has a huge catalogue of content that is more than capable of rivalling that of Google Play Movies & TV and iTunes, but the lack of a mobile client makes it a ghost in the eyes of the average consumer.

It doesn’t look like Microsoft Movies & TV will arrive on Android and iOS anytime soon, though, as work is currently ongoing, the sources revealed. There’s also a chance the plan could be scrapped ahead of release, they added – so best not get too excited.
