Microsoft has announced a new version of its Chromecast-like wireless display adaptor.
Back in September 2014, Microsoft announced its own Chromecast rival in the Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter. This HDMI stick allowed you to send media direct from Miracast-enabled smartphones, tablets, and laptops to your TV.
Its approach meant you weren’t restricted to specific apps or even a Wi-Fi connection to get content onto your television set.
Now Microsoft has announced a revised edition of that media-sharing device. It’s similar in form and function (though it appears to be a little more compact), but Microsoft claims that it does its thing with reduced latency.
Visual content can output at resolutions of up to 1,920 x 1,080, while audio can output two-channel stereo or 5.1 surround sound.
Obviously, Microsoft is also keen to associate it with a new generation of Windows 10 devices – when the original Wireless Display Adapter launched, we were still in the dark days of Windows 8.1.

It looks like the Wireless Display Adaptor device will be cheaper than the original, too. At $49.95 (£35), it represents a $10 saving.
The new Wireless Display Adaptor will hit the US and Canada on March 1, and Microsoft says that it will be “coming to future markets soon.”
