Microsoft explains Xbox 360 DLC Xbox One backwards compatibility

Microsoft has explained the conditions under which Xbox 360 DLC will be Xbox One backwards compatible.

If you’re expecting to play all your Xbox 360 DLC via the new Xbox One backwards compatibility feature, you can – but there’s a catch.

Xbox One backwards compatibility, which will be added to Microsoft’s latest console tonight with the Windows 10 update, is one of the most impressive features we’ve seen for some time.

However, although it runs Xbox 360 games via an emulator built within the Xbox One architecture, it doesn’t emulate the full Xbox 360 digital store.

Microsoft has stated that Xbox 360 DLC purchased either via the Xbox 360 console or the Xbox website will works on the Xbox One.

Previously, Microsoft claimed that DLC would only be supported on a per-publisher, per-title basis, it now seems any backwards compatible games will support DLC.

“Right now, Backward Compatibility does not emulate the Xbox 360 store and new Xbox 360 games can be purchased on your Xbox 360 or via Xbox.com,” said Microsoft to Game Informer.

“We will support both digital and disc-based entitlements for Xbox 360 games running on Xbox One.”

Xbox 360 DLC can be installed via the “Manage Game” menu for each title on your Xbox One.
