Microsoft ‘behind’ on development of Xbox 720 games

Xbox 720 games are behind schedule in terms of development, latest reports have suggested just weeks before Microsoft formally unveils its next Xbox console.

According to industry sources Microsoft has fallen behind development plans for the first Xbox 720 games with bitter rival Sony reportedly on much stronger ground in sourcing and creating the first PS4 games that will be available alongside the console at launch later this year.

“Sony is in better shape and further along with hardware and software development for PlayStation 4 than Microsoft is with Durango,” unnamed sources reportedly told gaming outlet Kotaku.

Suggesting that Microsoft has been frantically attempting to sign developers up to create exclusive Xbox 720 games in a bid to narrow the game on Sony’s efforts, the reports have claimed that Respawn, the studio set up by the Call of Duty franchise founders, has agreed to create a new Xbox exclusive.

“Given the lack of internal development at Microsoft—their internal studios, while talented, are outnumbered by those of Sony and Nintendo—and given some of the apparent recent stumbles and slowdowns internally, signing an exclusive Respawn-EA game would suit the Durango quite well,” the anonymous tipsters reported.

Long the thing of much rumour and speculation, the new Xbox was recently confirmed by Microsoft has heading for a May 21 unveiling at the company’s Redmond based HQ.

Long touted as the Xbox 720, much confusion and conflicting opinion now surrounds the name of the new Xbox, with last rumours and apparent leaks pegged the device as the Xbox Infinity.

According to claimed promotional materials reportedly leaked ahead of the console’s formal unveiling, Microsoft will dub its PS4 rival the Xbox Infinity with the device to host the tagline “Infinite Entertainment. Infinite Possibilities.”
