Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain had biggest UK launch in series’ history

Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain tops the UK sales charts with the biggest launch in franchise history.

The Phantom Pain seems to be going down pretty well, having launched to higher UK sales than any title in the series so far.

Hideo Kojima’s swansong trumped the opening sales of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty by roughly 37 per cent, which launched back in 2001 for the PS2.

However the sales of Phantom Pain were not enough the top The Witcher 3 or Batman: Arkham Knight, earning Metal Gear Solid 5 the third biggest launch of the year so far.

72 percent of MGS5 sales were on PS4, 22 percent were sold on Xbox One with PS3 and Xbox 360 picking up the remaining 5 percent.

In 2014, total sales for the Metal Gear franchise reached a total of 39 million. We’ve no doubt that The Phantom Pain will push this number even further, especially with a multiplatform release.
