Metal Gear’s Hideo Kojima still wants to work with Guillermo Del Toro

Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima and director Guillermo Del Toro are still in talks about a possible collaboration.

Hideo Kojima and well regarded film director Guillermo Del Toro could still end up working on a game together in the near future.

The pair were previously working on survival horror title Silent Hills, until it was cancelled by Konami earlier this year for reasons still unknown.

Guillermo Del Toro touched upon the relationship between him and Kojima in a recent interview with IGN.

“I love working with Kojima-san. We are still in touch. We are still friends and working into doing something together, but that’s not going to be [Silent Hills].

The film director also mentioned what Silent Hills could have been, despite being in early development at the time of its cancellation.

“We were in the planning stages, and it’s a shame it’s not going to happen,” Del Toro said. “We were talking about really pushing the boundaries of the new consoles, and making the game really mess with your head.”

“One of the great moments in Metal Gear [Solid] was Psycho Mantis. The idea that a game can actually interact with you, and stuff like that.”

If a future project between Kojima and Del Toro could in anyway resemble the potential seen in Silent Hills we’d be delighted, but that seems like a long shot.

Silent Hills was first revealed in 2014 through P.T, a “Playable Teaser” that drew inspiration from the early concepts of Silent Hills, and proved to be a huge hit with survival horror fans.

The teaser was unfortunately removed from the Playstation Store after the cancellation of Silent Hills, making it impossible to re-download.

Hideo Kojima is most likely finished at Konami though, who is rumoured to be leaving the studio after development on Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain wraps up.

The creator’s name has since been removed from all promotional material for the upcoming stealth title, and according to a Japanese voice actor, Kojima Productions has also been disbanded.
