Meet the Moto G (2016), leaked in glorious render form

Motorola’s upcoming Moto G certainly isn’t camera shy, as proved the interminable torrent of leaks.

The Moto G (2016) – or the Moto G4, alternatively – has appeared online, albeit this time in render form. That’s thanks to prolific tipster Evan Blass, known for his impressive track record of posting early mobile phone leaks. His latest post is the clearest look yet at what looks to be the new Moto G.

Blass also posted a follow-up tweet, referring to confusion over whether the image depicted the new Moto G, or the rumoured Moto G Plus, a larger spin-off device. Blass clarified that yesterday’s leak was in fact the Moto G4, not its bigger brother.

What’s curious about Blass’ latest leak is that there doesn’t appear to be a fingerprint scanner on the phone. That’s in contrast to previous leaks that depicted the Moto G as having a square home button/finger print scanner on the bottom of the phone’s front panel.

Nevertheless, it’s not unusual for phone makers to eschew home buttons entirely and instead opt for software-based buttons. Of course, if there isn’t a home button then there’s nowhere for the fingerprint scanner to go.

Motorola is expected to reveal the new Moto G at a launch event on May 18 – this Wednesday – although the company hasn’t confirmed such a device will actually be unveiled.
