Meet Google’s quirky new Android app logos

For a long while, Android struggled to match the aesthetics of iOS. That’s ancient history now though.
Google has unveiled new logos for its Google Play apps as part of the ongoing redesign that began with Android 5.0 Lollipop in 2014.
The new logos will replace existing icons for Google Play, the Play Store, Play Movies & TV, Play Music, Play Games, Play Books, and Play Newsstand.

“Since launching Google Play four years ago, we’ve always had dedicated apps in addition to the Google Play store,” writes Jonathan Chung, Visual Design Lead for Google Play.
Chung continues: “Today, all our icons are getting an updated to provide a consistent look across the entire family of Play apps.”
“We hope you’ll continue enjoying the Play family of products – now with a new look,” he adds.
According to Chung, the new icons will roll out across devices and online “in the coming weeks”.
