Customers using McDonald’s Wi-Fi in the United States probably aren’t doing so to research the nutritional information of the fast-food they’re shovelling down.
However, it turns out quite a few of them were making use of the anonymity to get their fix of pornography… until recently.
McDonald’s has now deployed filters that prevent greasy-fingered patrons from accessing adult content as a substitute for getting their Sausage McMuffin.
The group has been targeting McDonalds and Starbucks particularly and while both have obliged in the UK, the Wi-Fi at Starbucks US is still an open cess pool.
“While McDonald’s wasn’t aware of any pornography related incidents in their stores, their move to offer filtered WiFi is clearly one more major step in the right direction,” the group says (via VentureBeat)
“The bottom line – the majority of McDonald’s restaurants now offer safer WiFi access for their patrons.
“To date, Starbucks has yet to respond.”
Perhaps the company wants something to take patrons’ mind of the fact they just paid $6 for a cup of coffee?
