Mario Kart 8 and new Super Smash Bros confirmed for 2014 Wii U release

Nintendo has confirmed that Mario Kart 8 and a new Super Smash Bros game will be coming to the Wii U next year.

The Wii U will be getting a game injection in 2014 in the form of Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros, Nintendo has confirmed during its E3 Nintendo Direct press briefing.

Super Smash Bros, as it will be simply known, will be released for the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS next year and will introduce new characters to the Smash Bros crew.

The villager from Animal Crossing and Mega Man will both join the battle in the new Super Smash Bros title. The Villager can dig pits to trap enemies or quickly chop down trees to hurt them. Mega Man, in the Blue Bomber attire, will feature with his trusty arm cannon, the Mega Buster, a selection of Robot Master skills. His dog, Rush, also makes an appearance.

Of course the Super Smash Bros also shows the classic characters from the first iterations of the game like Super Smash Bros Brawl, including Link from Zelda, Bowser, Pikachu, Samus from Metroid, Kirby, Donkey Kong and of course Mario himself.

As for Mario Kart 8, the new Nintendo Wii U title will take the racetrack up walls and upside-down with the new zero gravity feature. Mario Kart 8 offers hovering karts and bikes, as well as new gliders and under-water propeller vehicles, that pack electromagnets to grip the players to the track regardless of the orientation of the road.

Different paths through the course are provided through these new vertical and upside-down sections of the track, which is shown to make 90-degree flicks to the course at any point during the race. This could definitely add a new level of craziness to Mario Kart 8 races.

Mario Kart 8 still retains the the usual assortment of items and allows palyers to make the famous Mario Kart arcade-like drifts around every corner.
