There is no question we all want our PMPs of the future to deliver stunning projected interactive 3D pictures in the Minority Report style but could this be the first step…?
With ‘iFusion’ Neovision claims it has developed a breakthrough attachment which sticks on the screen of your PMP to display content in three dimensions without the need for gawky 3D glasses, software or drivers.
Apparently iFusion will also work with both 2D and 3D content, offer a minimum of three viewing zones and provide full resolution for each eye though frustratingly none of the technological details behind this technology have been divulged. Codec support is wide too being compatible with Jpegs, Gifs, Mpeg4, WM9 and more though Neovision does muddy the water somewhat by saying these need to be ’3d encoded’ which would seemingly negate its boasts regarding a software-less setup.
Also noteworthy is Neovision’s list of ‘compatible’ PMPs which so far includes Microsoft’s Zune, the Creative Vision W, Archos 604 and the company’s own iUbi Blue but not the add-on king of them: Apple’s iPod.
The first iFusion attachments will be on the market by Q1 2007 by which time we hope things will be somewhat clearer. Should it work the applications could be near endless and, yes, I know exactly what direction your thoughts are headed… …since I got there first!
