Magellan SmartGPS app launches for iOS and Android
Magellan, a leading sat-nav and GPS manufacturer, has announced that it will be releasing Magellan SmartGPS apps for Android and iOS platforms, providing a free GPS system that also integrates social media aspects.
The Magellan SmartGPS app will provide a cloud platform that integrates social media content directly into the navigation maps, delivering live dynamic content on local businesses to create a unique navigation experience.
“We architected the Smart Ecosystem to integrate with automotive infotainment and mobile network service platforms so users can enjoy a truly mobile, connected car experience now,” said Peggy Fong, President of MiTAC Digital Corporation.
Feeding reviews, tips and offers from social media sites Yelp and Foursquare directly to the navigation system via constantly updating live squares that localise and personalise the GPS service offered by Magellan SmartGPS apps. Users can explore the suggested business reviews and offers directly through the Macgellan SmartGPS app, without needing to open the device’s own browser.
Location sharing options are available, and users can pair their Magellan SmartGPS app with SmartGPS-enabled devices. Using these devices or a PC, users can search for a location and save it in the Magellan Smart Ecosystem cloud to synch to all other SmartGPS devices via a Wi-Fi or Bluetooth connection.
The free Magellan SmartGPS app will be available in Europe this summer from the iOS App Store and the Google Play store, on devices such as the iPad Mini, Samsung Galaxy S3 and the recently launched HTC One. Users can also opt for the premium version of the Magellan SmartGPS app that includes a spoken turn-by-turn navigation mode.
