MacBook Pro Problems: Apple acknowledges keyboard and trackpad issues – fix inbound
Apple has confirmed that it is working on a fix for recently discovered MacBook Pro problems, with the company addressing troubles with the latest model’s keyboard and trackpad.
Following its official launch last week, early adopters as the late-2013 MacBook Pro suggested in recent days that the laptop is suffering from random bouts of keyboard and trackpad freezing issues. Apple has now acknowledged the issue and said it is working on a fix.
Announced alongside the new iPad Air and iPad mini 2 with Retina display last Tuesday, October 22, the revised MacBook Pro models were made available with immediate effect, with early adopters having quickly reported a range of late-2013 MacBook Pro problems.
According to the Apple support pages,
“Apple is aware of rare circumstances where the built-in keyboard and Multi-Touch trackpad may become unresponsive on 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display (Late 2013) computers and is working on an update to resolve this behaviour,” the Cupertino-based company has stated in a note on its support pages.
While a more stable fix is in the works, the manufacturer has offered a bodged work-around for the timebeing. The statement added: “If you experience this issue, reset the keyboard and trackpad by closing the computer’s display for approximately one minute and then open it.”
With more than 17 pages of related issues already filling the Apple support pages, one disgruntled owner wrote: “I have just got my new MacBook Pro Retina 13 Haswell (October Model). This is my second day of usage and I have encountered sudden system freeze for 2 times already. The keyboard and the trackpad stops working including brightness keys and volume control keys. I have use Apple hardware test but no problems are found.”
This is just one of many similar reports, with a further user stating: “I have been using my MacBook for 2 days and I have encountered sudden freeze for 4 times! The keyboard and the trackpad are unresponsive.”
Unveiling the update laptops last week, Phil Schiller, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Marketing stated: “We’ve made the world’s best pro notebook even better by adding more performance and even longer battery life.” He added: “MacBook Pro with Retina display continues to redefine the pro notebook.”
With the 13-inch model dropping to just 3.5lbs in weight, the latest MacBook Pro refresh has seen the laptop had new fourth-generation Intel Core processors, starting from 2.6GHz options alongside a 128GB SSD and 4GB of RAM.
