Apple has snuck in at the end of the year and finally unveiled the new 16-inch MacBook Pro 2019. The new size introduces a revamped scissor-switch keyboard and starts at £2399.
We’ve been eagerly awaiting the eventual announcement of the MacBook Pro 2019 and – after rumours swirled that we’d see the new device before the week was out – Apple has revealed the new 16-inch version of its flagship laptop. Here’s the lowdown on the base model of the new MacBook Pro:
- 2.6GHz 6-core 9th Gen Intel Core i7 processor
- AMD Radeon Pro 5300M graphics
- 16GB RAM
- 512GB SSD
- 16-inch Retina Display with True Tone
- Touch Bar and Touch ID
- Four Thunderbolt 3 ports
The 16-inch MacBook Pro can be specced all the way up to a whopping price of £5769 with a model that includes 8TB of SSD storage.
The laptop may not look as different as many expected and a lot of the difference has confirmed many leaks that were already out in the wild. However, MacBook Pro fans will be eagerly awaiting for impressions of the new keyboard which Apple hopes will course-correct the much-maligned butterfly switches.

16-inch MacBook Pro 2019 release date
Apple launched the 16-inch MacBook Pro 2019 on November 13, and you can order it from Apple’s website or the Apple Store app right now.
If you’re based in the US, you’ll be able to pick one up from your local Apple Store or Apple-authorised reseller later this week, and it’s “coming soon to stores around the world”.
16-inch MacBook Pro 2019 price
The MacBook Pro 2019 pricing starts at £2399 and goes all the way up to £5769.
The 15-inch MacBook Pro model that preceded this new entry cost also cost £2399 – so Apple is sticking to that pricing structure for the new size.

MacBook Pro 2019 – Design and display
The most obvious difference between the 15-inch MacBook Pro and the new 16-inch MacBook Pro 2019 is – quite obviously – the display. While the display is larger, the new MacBook Pro is almost identical in size to its smaller screen counterpart.
Fans who have been unhappy with the MacBook Pro keyboard through the butterfly switch years will be happy to know it’s all change. The new 16-inch MacBook Pro sports Apple’s new scissor-switch keys. Apple says the new Magic keyboard offers 1mm of travel and delivers the best typing experience ever on a MacBook – here’s hoping.
The 16-inch display has a resolution of 3072 x 1920 with 226 ppi, offers a P3 wide colour gamut Retina display and up to 500 nits of brightness. Apple has long impressed with its displays and the specs look like this model will follow suit.
The next thing you’ll notice if you pick up this MacBook Pro is the slightly redesigned area around the Touch Bar. The ESC key and Touch ID sensor have been broken out from the Touch Bar – bringing a physical ESC button back to the MacBook Pro.
