Microsoft will apparently soon release a new Windows 10 Mobile smartphone in the Lumia 650, but that could be it for 2016 – and the Lumia brand.
That’s the claim being made in a report over the weekend, which suggests that Microsoft will launch one final mid-range smartphone under the Lumia brand.
Windows Central cites “multiple sources” when it claims that the Lumia 650 will be announced on February 1, which is exactly two weeks from today.
There won’t be a special launch event for this new smartphone, though. Rather, Microsoft will reveal details about the phone through its official blog.
As this suggests, the Lumia 650 won’t offer much to shout about. It’s claimed that the phone will feature a 5-inch 720p display, a lowly Snapdragon 210 or 212 CPU, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of storage (with expansion through a microSD slot), and an 8-megapixel main camera.

But it’s the claims that the Lumia 650 will be the final Lumia launch that are of most interest. There have been rumours that a Lumia 750 and Lumia 850 will make appearances at MWC at the end of February, but the above report maintains that both those phones have been cancelled.
According to the report, however, the Lumia 650 won’t be Microsoft’s only smartphone of the year. Rather, the company could finally produce a Surface-branded flagship phone towards the end of the year.
