Low-cost iPhone to be cross between iPod and iPhone 5

The much-rumoured low-cost iPhone will apparently boast a new design that mixes elements of the iPhone 5, the iPhone touch and the iPhone classic.

Apple is reportedly proceeding with plans for an all-new cheaper iPhone, and fresh reports claim that it will draw on a number of previous iDevices for its design.

iLounge is claiming (via “reliable sources”) that the new iPhone will be “substantially plastic,” but will look a little like the current iPhone 5. It will be slightly bigger than Apple’s current flagship device – around half a millimeter taller and wider, and a millimeter thicker.

Cheap iPhone Design
Arguably the biggest difference with the budget iPhone will be the inclusion of some iPod-like curves. Whilst the phone will look like an iPhone 5 from the front – including that same stretched-out 4-inch display – from the side it will look more like the iPod touch, with its gently curved rear edges.

“Apple’s budget housing looks closest to the iPod classic in shape,” reads the report. Unlike, say, the iPhone 3GS, the budget iPhone’s curves will resolve into straight surfaces on each side.

The bottom of the device apparently resembles a current generation iPod touch – the iPod touch 5G, as it’s known in some quarters. Whilst all the ports are in the same places as the iPhone 5, there are far fewer holes like the iPod touch.

The question now is: when will this cheaper iPhone hit the market, and exactly how cheap will it be?
