For many years LoveFilm was the only subscription streaming option for people in the UK looking to get film and TV on demand and straight to their home. However with the launch of Netflix last week in the UK and Ireland, the Amazon-owned company has begun announcing a slew of new deals in a bid to ward off the challenge from Netflix.
From later this month, LoveFilm customers will get access to the ABC TV On Demand service which includes popular TV series such as Lost, Desperate Housewives, Grey’s Anatomy and Brothers & Sisters.
Shows will be launched as full seasons after their first run on UK TV with previous seasons of some series becoming available to members before the next season airs on UK television.
Netflix, which is a streaming-only service, launched in the UK and Ireland last week priced at £5.99 a month. LoveFilm quickly responded by dropping the price of its streaming-only service to £4.99 a month. Both Netflix and LoveFilm have mounted strong advertising campaigns in a bid to win over customers who have yet to decide which service to choose.
