LoveFilm adds additional BBC content in revamped deal

Movie streaming specialist LoveFilm has added additional BBC content to its ever-expanding library, after rebooting its content deal with BBC Worldwide.

Subscribers to LoveFilm instant will now have access to a wider range of programmes from BBC, adding to the already expansive selection of the Beeb’s content already offered by the Amazon-owned company.

Ahead of the new series being aired, LoveFilm customers can catch up on the first series of crime drama Luther or dip into old favourites such as Ricky Gervais’ The Office and Extras.

Hundreds of episodes of Top Gear will also be appearing amongst the LoveFilm catalogues, a show that was recently named the most widely watched factual programme worldwide by the Guinnes Book of World Records 2013. Classic crime-drama Jonathan Creek will also be added, allowing LoveFilm users to follow Alan Davies’ character unravel the mysteries behind the most bizarre murders.

“Our content partnership with LoveFilm continues to evolve year on year,” said Head of UK, Ireland and Pan European TV Sales for BBC Worldwide, Lisa Rousseau. “This new deal will see more gripping award-winning dramas and landmark documentaries added to the service bringing some of the very best in UK television to LoveFilm’s subscribers.”

The UK’s biggest film-streaming specialist, LoveFilm has already announced TV content deals with NBCUniversal, Channel 4 and Marvel this year, as the company’s vast library continues to grow and accumulate programmes catering to a wide range of audience demands.

“The evolution of our TV offering has been unstoppable over the past year. We kicked off 2012 by announcing a new deal with BBC Worldwide and it is great to see-in 2013 by adding to that agreement,” said Jim Buckle, Managing Director at LoveFilm. “We’ve got some of the best British TV content ever made, and we’re first choice for TV fans who want good quality shows, instantly.”

LoveFilm also announced that LoveFilm Instant customers with internet-connected Sony Bravia Smart TVs and Sony Bravia Blu-Ray Players could now enjoy streaming TV series and films in 720p HD video at no additional cost.
