LG is expected to launch a range of Android 4.4 KitKat smartphones at MWC 2014.
The MWC announcement smartphones could be a new low- or mid-range handset line that all run the latest Android KitKat OS, which has been specifically built to run on smartphones with minimum RAM.
Unknown LG Android KitKat OS handsets were spotted on HTML5Test, listed with model numbers not currently associated with any existing handsets.
The model numbers are as follows: LG-D830, LS740, LG-D410, LG –D320 and LG-MS323. This could well mean that LG is gearing up to launch five new mid to low-end handsets at MWC 2014.
There isn’t much info available for any of the handsets yet though, apart from the LG-D830 which should offer Android KitKat, a full 1080p HD display and LTE support according to a separate leak.
It does bear some similarities to the model numbers of the Google Nexus 5 (LG-D820 and LG-D821), but that doesn’t indicate much at this point although is worth keeping in mind come February.
The LS740 could be an exclusive model number for an LG smartphone destined for Sprint, the third-largest US mobile network. This is because existing Sprint smartphones have similar format model numbers: the LG G2 is LS980, LG March is LS860 and the LG Viper is LS840 for example.
It would make a lot of sense for LG to launch mid-range and low-end Android KitKat smartphones, as this is exactly what Google designed its latest OS for.
Android 4.4 KitKat is capable of running on smartphones with just 512MB of RAM, as Google has reduced the memory footprint of its newest OS so it can run on a larger range of handsets.
This means manufacturers can not only update older handset to Android KitKat but can launch budget handsets with the OS already installed without any issues.
