LG has revealed that the forthcoming LG Stylus 2 will have a unique trick up its sleeve – DAB+ radio support.
The new phablet, which was announced at MWC 2016 last month, will be the first phone to feature a DAB+ chipset. This will enable it to receive far more radio channels than phones with regular FM chips.
The South Korean manufacturer revealed the news at Radiodays Europe 2016 in Paris, which is the world’s largest radio conference. Apparently.
Besides dedicated DAB+ hardware, the LG Stylus 2 will come with an app that helps users find the many radio stations available on DAB. Content providers will also be able to develop their own apps that take advantage of this unique hardware.
Of course, with a modern smartphone’s near-constant access to the internet, many if not all of these additional channels can be accessed already. However, with DAB support these channels can be accessed for free, without consuming any of your data allowance.
Besides an expanded radio offering, the LG Stylus 2 will offer a 5.7-inch 720p display, a 1.2GHz quad-core CPU with 1.5GB of RAM, a 13-megapixel camera, and a 3,000mAh battery. Naturally, it also comes with a stylus for note taking and more precise (and fingerprint-free) navigation.

What’s more, the Stylus 2’s Pen Keeper function will notify you when you start moving with the stylus out of its holder, while Pen Pop toggles shortcuts to Pop Memo and Pop Scanner when the stylus is in use.
The LG Stylus 2 will initially be coming to the UK, Australia, Belgium, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, and Norway some time this year.
