LG teases Google Assistant speaker and more audio goodness for CES 2018

LG has teased a new smart speaker, which is its first to support the Google Assistant.

The new ThinQ Speaker (dead centre, above) will be fully revealed at CES 2018, which begins in the second week of January.

LG is promising a “premium sounding” speaker, with support for lossless high-resolution audio.

It’s also designed to be a voice activated hub for LG’s smart electronics and appliances.

The company worked with Google to pair Assistant with the ThinQ products like smart lamps, locks, sound bars, thermostats, washing machines, vacuums and fridges.

Of course, it’ll also play nice with LG TVs and other Google Assistant-enabled gadgets. Owners will be able to “OK Google, talk to LG, turn on the air purifier,” for example.

LG is yet to reveal the price or release date, but we’ll learn more at CES on January 9.

The company has also previewed the “fun, convenient” portable PK speakers that can be taken anywhere and serve up high-res audio thanks to the Apt-X HD Bluetooth standard.

“These speakers are compatible with the Apt-X HD Bluetooth standard for streaming 24-bit music over a wireless connection for listening experience that comes close to the original,” LG writes in a pre-CES press release.

LG will also showcase a party speaker, with 1,800W max output, DJ capabilities karaoke and lights, and a brand new soundbar during the CES expo.
