This LG ‘Smart’ fridge is the most magical kitchen appliance ever

LG has unveiled a new smart refrigerator that runs on Windows 10, because why the hell not?

In the halls of Berlin’s IFA 2016 technology tradeshow sits the LG Smart Instaview Door-in-Door Refrigerator, a space-age fridge that features a 21.5-inch touchscreen. This oversized tablet runs on Windows 10, and offers access to the full range of Windows Store apps and Live Tiles, plus some LG apps too.

But perhaps the coolest feature is this: When you knock on the glass, the screen turns translucent, which lets you see the contents of your fridge without ever having to open the door. Magical.

It’s a clear response to Samsung’s own Family Hub refrigerator, another display-toting fridge that (unfortunately) lacks the cool knock-to-view feature debuted on LG’s Smart Instaview.

The new LG fridge was revealed in a report by Cnet that claims it won’t be available until later this year, or perhaps early next year. We also don’t have pricing yet – soz. But for reference, the Samsung Family Hub retails at a starting price of $5,600, so LG’s rival cooler won’t be cheap.
