LG Rolls Out GPS With 7in Touchscreen

If you can't read from this you shouldn't be driving a car.

LG is a company with which I associate many things: televisions, monitors, mobile phones, projectors, laptops, washers, ovens, fridges and – of course – optical media drives which began during the time it was called ‘Lucky Goldstar’. But never sat nav…

The company has clearly aimed to start with a bang however and with the ‘LAN9600R’ it has announced an integrated satellite navigation unit with a massive seven inch motorised, fold away touch screen. As you might expect there is support for seven digit postcode search and – on something this meaty – full pan-European map support, but you may be slightly more surprised to learn it is a full-on multimedia system too!

The monstrous screen doubles up as a DVD monitor and the front loading slot drive can also swallow DVDs and CDs as well as play MP3s while a USB port means you can plug in memory keys to add content. Sadly LG says all movie images will not be visible whilst the parking brake is disengaged for safety reasons but if you absolutely must see the latest Hollywood blockbuster (though god knows why?) I guess you can always choose not to disengage it…

Bluetooth makes it aboard for connecting mobile phones and finally, while the LAN9600R would be a thief’s nirvana, LG has thought to make the front panel removable.

Surprisingly, LG is currently only selling the LAN9600R through petrol head haven Halfords and it didn’t provide us with any pricing but a little web check indicates a substantial $2,000 US RRP and don’t expect a straight GBP conversion.

Do however expect to see it on Pimp My Ride ”very soon”…
