The LG Optimus G2 will we released some time this autumn, according to recent rumours.
Many expected the LG Optimus G2 to launch at CES last week, but LG’s smartphone presence at the Las Vegas show turned out to be non-existent. Now Cnet claims that the new super-phone won’t be available until some time in the autumn.
Whilst this might seem like a massive wait, this would put about a year between the launch of the first LG Optimus G (pictured) and its follow-up. That’s the standard time-frame for consecutive handsets in a range.
As the report points out, this would also permit LG to include the latest version of the Android OS with the LG Optimus G2. Android 5.0, or Key Lime Pie as it’s being code-named, will likely launch in late May, if previous releases are anything to go by. The first devices to run the new OS will come out – you guessed it – in the autumn.
The LG Optimus G2 will reportedly feature a 5.5-inch 1080p Full HD display and a quad-core CPU – which appears to be the accepted spec for a high-end Android phone launched in 2013.
Rumour has it that LG is planning a stop-gap device in the meantime. This mystery phone would apparently have a 5.5-inch display and a quad-core processor, and would be timed to attempt to head of the Samsung Galaxy S4.
LG’s next phone could be revealed at the end of February, when the Mobile World Congress event takes place in Barcelona.
