LG Optimus G Pro launched with 5-inch 1080p display

LG has revealed a new smartphone with a 5-inch 1080p display, called the LG Optimus G Pro.

The device, which is a Japan-only effort for now, joins an increasingly busy roster of large-screen HD devices – many of which were launched at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) earlier in the month.

Devices such as the Sony Xperia Z and the Huawei Ascend D2 have already made the big-is-beautiful case this year.

The LG Optimus G Pro’s specs are certainly competitive, although far from unique. It might simply come down to matter of preference with regard to each phone’s styling and build quality.

LG Optimus G Pro Specs

The LG Optimus G Pro with feature a 5-inch 1080p IPS display, and will run on a 1.7GHz quad-core Snapdragon CPU backed by 2GB of RAM. Impressive, but far from unique.

It’ll come with 32GB of internal storage, supported by a microSD slot for expansion purposes. The LG Optimus G Pro will run on the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS.

Given its increased screen size and 10mm thickness, the LG Optimus G Pro will be as much of a step up in size as specs when compared to the original LG Optimus G, which was never launched in the UK (or at least it hasn’t been yet).

Part of that increase in size is likely due to the considerable 3,000mAh battery needed to power that huge high definition screen. The phone will weigh 160 grams.

LG Optimus G Pro Availability

The LG Optimus G Pro has only been confirmed for launch in Japan at present, where it will hit shops this April. There’s no news of a Western launch just yet, but keep your eyes peeled for a possible update at MWC next month.
