LG Nexus smartphone ‘under consideration’, report claims

Rumours have once again emerged suggesting LG might be working on the next Nexus smartphone.

According to a report by AndroidPit, LG isn’t confirmed for the job just yet, but that the move is ‘under consideration’.

How deep this consideration goes remains to be seen, but as this isn’t the first we’ve heard of it, we’d say there’s a good chance LG will take up reins on the upcoming device.

“When we asked our source outright if LG was in any way involved with a new Nexus, the response was that, “it’s under consideration at LG”,” read the report.

It’s worth mentioning that Huawei is also tipped to be in the running for the next Nexus device too.

The two manufacturers could be working on separate devices however, although both would be part of the Nexus program.

There’s been plenty of talk suggesting the China-based manufacturer will be producing a 5.7-inch smartphone for Google.

LG, meanwhile, could be working on an also-rumoured 5.2-inch smartphone stamped with Nexus branding.

Whatever the case, both manufacturers have quite the job on their hands, as critical reception was fairly flat after last year’s Nexus 6 launch.

While the Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 were both highly praised, the Nexus 6 failed to meet high expectations of customers.

Perhaps Google is taking a two-pronged manufacturing approach in hopes of pleasing more people with its otherwise popular Nexus line-up.
