Something kinda neat built into something kinda plain.
Bluetooth headsets are an increasingly popular accessory for today’s mobile phones so is this the solution to even greater take-up…?
The always innovative LG has come up with the ‘VX8610’, dubbed the ‘Decoy’, which is the first handset to come with a detachable Bluetooth headset. Clipping onto the rear of the phone the two devices are automatically paired and can be charged as a single unit – very clever.
Sadly for all this lateral thinking it is obvious LG is only testing the water with this design since the handset itself is distinctly mediocre. A decent enough screen size is supported by a measly 2MP camera (where have we heard that before?) and MP3 playback. 3G, GPS and WiFi are all missing and on-board storage capacity is omitted with the emphasis placed on the microSD/SDHC expansion slot so expect it to be low.
Still the Decoy isn’t trying to fool anyone with its launch date since LG has nailed on an imminent 16 June release. Personally speaking I’d like to see something similar tried with some higher range models*, but we have to start somewhere.
”*” Not a reference to the fine ladies in the photo, who are perfectly adequate!
