Designer TV, but no fashion brand tie-ins from LG.
We’ve mentioned before that LG is perceived quite often as Korea’s number two TV manufacturer, trailing somewhat in Samsung’s wake. It may seem more than mere coincidence, then, that within that same month as Samsung has announced its designer, Armani-branded TV, LG has also announced a forthcoming design-focussed set – although the clash is almost certainly down to mere chance.
Four sizes are available; 47in, 42in and 37in with 1,920 x 1,080 panels and a 32in set with a 1,366 x 768 resolution. All feature 15,000:1 (dynamic) contrast ratios, 24fps support and the larger two sets also offer 100Hz processing. Four HDMI 1.3 ports are sported, which is good, alongside the usual array of inputs such as component and s-video.
Various picture modes are featured allowing users to tweak the TVs’ images to best effect. An ambient sensor enables the sets to automatically adjust settings based on surrounding lighting. Other modes include Cinema, for enhancing black levels, Sport which tweaks in favour of response time and Game, which apparently offers a balance between the two. For enthusiasts there is also an ISF-certified manual mode, which should allow for tweaking the very best image quality possible from the sets.
LG says the Scarlet TV range will be available sometime this month, but pricing isn’t yet specified. It’s probably a safe bet that a designer price tag will accompany the designer styling.
