LG HOM-BOT Turbo+ robot vacuum adds AR and guard dog features
LG has announced that it has updated its automated hoover in the LG HOM-BOT Turbo+.
We reviewed the original LG HOM-BOT hoover way back in 2013, but the new model features a number of notable additions. Chief among those is augmented reality technology.
Home-Joy is the name of a new user interface that lets you issue instructions to the HOM-BOT using the camera of your smartphone. Just tap on the part of the room that needs more cleaning, and the HOM-Bot Turbo+ will scoot off to that area and begin cleaning.
The HOM-BOT Turbo+ employs Triple Eye camera sensors to record and keep track of where it’s already cleaned, while it also has a camera in the front so that it can transmit a live feed to your phone.
You can then remotely control the HOM-BOT, and indulge in a spot of remote cleaning wherever you are in the world. It beats paying for a cleaner while you’re away, we suppose.

That camera also gets used in the HOM-BOT Turbo+’s Home-Guard feature. This sends photos of the inside of your home to your smartphone whenever it senses movement. In other words, besides being a cleaner, the HOM-BOT Turbo+ is also a pretty sophisticated guard dog.
The HOM-BOT Turbo+ has an 80V lithium-ion battery that’s good for 40 minutes of continuous cleaning.
LG will be showing off the HOM-BOT Turbo+ at CES 2016, which kicks off on January 6.
