LG G3 QuickCircle case officially launched

LG has taken the somewhat unusual step of revealing the official case for its forthcoming LG G3 flagship phone before the handset itself.

The LG G3 will be unveiled at a launch event being held next Tuesday May 27, but the South Korean manufacturer has just sent out a bunch of information on the accompanying QuickCircle case.

To be fair, it does look rather nifty. It’s a folder-like case that leaves a circle of screen visibility at the top of the device. When in the case, the LG G3 will provide information to fit that window, such as the current time or weather.

You’ll even to perform essential smartphone tasks without opening up the case, such as placing calls, sending texts, and taking pictures with the G3’s camera.

LG has said that it will launch an SDK next month to allow app developers to produce custom applications that take advantage of the circular format.

The case is also Qi wireless charger compatible, and there’s a little lighting system around the rim of the circular window that will glow when a new notification arrives.

As for the LG G3, the latest in a long line of leaks has confirmed that it will feature a 5.5-inch QHD IPS display, a Snapdragon 801 CPU, 3GB of RAM, and a 3000mAh battery. It’ll measure a pretty standard 146.3 x 74.6 x 8.9mm, and will come with Android 4.4 KitKat.

The LG G3’s 13-megapixel rear camera looks set to feature a unique laser sensor that will apparently improve low-light photography and raise focusing speeds.

Tune in next Tuesday to find out exactly what will be filling LG’s QuickCircle case.
