LG G3 crowned 2014 TrustedReviews Phone of the Year

The LG G3 has been crowned Phone of the Year at the 2014 TrustedReviews Awards, seeing off competition from the likes of the iPhone 6 and the HTC One M8.

A device which has kicked the hotly contested smartphone space into yet another gear, the LG G3 pairs a hugely impressive specs sheet with an innovative, near bezel free design.

Having received praise from both the voting public and our panel of expert judges, the G3 shook the market back in June by adding a 5.5-inch QHD display into a frame no larger than some 5-inch handsets.

While a laser focused 13-megapixel camera and rear-mounted controls also feature, this push to a 2560 x 1440 pixel panel has since sparked a number of rivals to follow suit – including Samsung with the Galaxy Note 4.

“We’ve been spoilt for choice this year with loads of brilliant phones,” said Evan Kypreos, Editor of TrustedReviews. “It was very tight between the iPhone 6, HTC One M8 and the eventual winner, the LG G3.

“The LG won out in the end because of its lack of weakness in any area.

Looking to where the G3 tipped the balance, he added: “The sleek design with the buttons at the rear is ingenious, the camera great and the screen something special. When all of these things come without sacrificing the battery life, it is clear the LG G3 just has the edge on the competition.”

Having drifted into smartphone obscurity in recent years, LG is now once again a serious player in the handset space.

Eased back into the market through its partnership with Google – LG manufactured both the Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 – the Korean manufacturer returned to form in 2013 with the LG G2. Now, the LG G3 has taken things to another level and left us excited to see what 2015 and the mooted LG G4 might have in store.

In taking the coveted crown, the LG G3 saw off competition from arguably the industry’s biggest player – Apple – and last year’s best phone winner – HTC.
