LG G Watch tipped for June release with €199 price tag

The LG G Watch was officially announced last month alongside an expected Q2 arrival, and now latest reports have claimed the first Android Wear smartwatch will touch down in June.

With the Korean manufacturer remaining cagey around exactly when its response to the Samsung Gear 2 will land, French media have claimed the timepiece will hit European markets in a little over a month.

“LG France confirms that the G Watch shows available in our region in the month of June, and costs only 199 €,”Les Numeriques has reported.

Although the reports have failed to narrow down the G Watch’s release beyond simply ‘June’, the claimed LG G Watch release date fits with the latter part of the manufacturer’s previously promised ‘Q2’ launch window.

While the latest G Watch reports have claimed the challenger to the expected Apple iWatch will cost €199 on mainland Europe, the company recently confirmed that in the UK the smartwatch will be priced under £180.

Speaking exclusively with TrustedReviews back in March, James Marshall, LG’s European Director of Mobile Communications told us the G Watch marked the company’s “statement of intent” on the growing wearables space.

“You can expect it in quarter two of this year, so very, very quickly, and obviously that means more information will fall out and we will let you know as soon as that becomes available,” Marshall told us.

He added: “Right now it is a clear statement of intent in terms of working with Google and we are exciting about the next step and what that brings for us. That’s as much as we can say today.”

With the LG G3 having been confirmed by the manufacturer to be heading for a Q2 launch, it is looking increasingly likely that the flagship phone and Android Wear smartwatch will be showcased during the same launch event.
