LG G Watch R primed for IFA launch

LG will launch a new look G Watch at IFA, next week’s tech extravaganza being held in Berlin.

The new device, known as the LG G Watch R, has been trailed by the Korean tech giant on its official YouTube account.

The new device comes just two months after LG’s first G Watch hit shelves, meeting with a lukewarm reception from critics and customers. Its average design and poor visibility outdoors saw it labelled as a beta device for early adopters.

LG appears to have taken the criticism on board. The G Watch R, which will use Google’s Android Wear software like its predecessor, has a stylish round design not dissimilar to that of the sharp–looking Motorola Moto 360.

The short teaser video offers the briefest of glimpses at the watch. LG promises it will be ‘a perfect circle’, but has delivered little else in the way of specs and tech information. Expect it to offer the same fitness tracking smarts as the G Watch, hopefully with an improved battery.

The G Watch R is likely to be on the show floor at IFA next week, along with a slew of other Android Wear devices. Asus is said to be lining up a sub–£100 smart watch, while Motorola is also expected to reveal a new take on its Moto 360.
