LG: Curved OLED TVs will outsell traditional flat options in 2015

The era of curved television is firmly upon us with LG predicted its curved OLED offerings will outsell their traditional flat counterparts during the coming year.

While curved TVs might still be considered little more than a novelty by many, LG has revealed it expects consumers to favour its flexed panels during 2015.

According to the Korean manufacturer, the notion of a curved panel holds more high-end mystique than its flat siblings if nothings else. As such, as consumers step up the price ladder, the popularity of curved units increases.

“Curved TVs are most likely to outsell their flat counterparts in 2015,” Robert Taylor, LG’s Home Entertainment Product manager told TrustedReviews during CES 2015.

He added: “If you look at most of the premium sale in the market they are now all curved models.

“I think that that consumers are now accepting that curved is a bit more of a premium statement than flat.”

Although curved is on the rise, LG has been keen to stress the days of the flat panel television aren’t numbered just yet.

“For us we don’t discount one over the other, that’s why we produce both,” Taylor said. “Not everybody buys into the curve and consumers want choice.

“Unlike other manufacturers in the market, we are providing choice with our premium TVs. It doesn’t have to be about one form factor or the other in the Ultra HD section.”
