LG announces three new G Pad tablets

LG has taken the wraps off three new tablets from the G Pad range.

The original LG G Pad 8.3 launched towards the end of last year, and a very creditable effort it was too. Now LG has expanded the range with three new models.

LG has just pre-announced the LG G Pad 7.0, the LG G Pad 8.0, and the LG G Pad 10.1 ahead of their official unveiling at the MedPI 2014 show in glamorous Monaco this week.

“Unlike smartphones, tablets are not one size fits all,” explains Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of the LG, “so we designed the G Pad Series for a diverse target audience, some who prioritise portability while others want the best multimedia experience possible.”

Alongside Dr. Park’s comments, you probably guessed from the names that the chief difference between these new tablets is their screen size. There’s a 7-inch, an 8-inch, and a 10.1-inch version.

We’re wondering whether the 8-inch version was wholly necessary given that the original had an 8.3-inch display, but we’ll have to wait for the proper unveiling to see if there are any more substantial improvements.

LG hasn’t revealed any specs for the new G Pad range. All it reveals is that the three new tablets will feature a new version of the QPair software (essentially a tethering app) that appeared on the LG G Pad 8.3.

The company also mentions Knock Code, a feature that lets you power on and unlock your tablet with a custom knock pattern on the device’s display.

We should learn more about the new LG G Pad trio’s specifications later in the week.
