LG has taken the wraps off yet another product it’s planning to showcase at CES 2018, announcing a new “affordable, yet premium” projector that will be its first 4K HDR offering in the space.
Designed to appeal to the lucrative home cinema market, the webOS-powered HU80KA is a 150-inch standalone 4K projector that supports HDR10 – though there’s no mention of support for Dolby Vision. However, the webOS interface means you’ll have integrated access to most popular streaming apps.
There are two 7-watt speakers built-in to the unit, which may or may not be enough to meet your needs, depending on how seriously you take your home entertainment set-up – serious AV buffs might want to consider pairing it with a high-end soundbar or external speakers, should they decide to plump for it when it’s available.
We haven’t got specifics when it comes to the HU80KA’s price yet, though by way of comparison, LG typically pitches “affordable” Ultra HD projects at around the $2000(~£1500) mark.
Other features of the HU80KA include optical, HDMI and Bluetooth audio outputs; USB drive compatibility; and the ability to hook up the project to external keyboard and mouse for better navigation.
It’s one of a number of new products LG is expected to showcase at next week’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, with other reveals including the first batch of AI-equipped ThinQ TVs, new 4K OLED tellies, and updated mid-range smartphones.
