Lenovo ThinkPad 25 is the retro-styled laptop of dreams

It’s 25-years since IBM first launched the iconic ThinkPad laptop and the company’s current custodian Lenovo is apparently in the mood to celebrate.

Images and purported specs for the retro-styled ThinkPad 25 have appeared online, courtesy of the German site WinFuture.

The Anniversary Edition carries many of the hallmarks of the original, including, of course, the red TrackPoint in the middle of the keyboard.

It has a blue Enter button, the old school coloured ThinkPad logo to the right of the trackpad and the traditional array of mouse buttons with red accents.

Elsewhere it’s a very modern beast. According to the report, it has a 14-inch 1080p IPS display and an Intel Core i7 processor with 16GB of RAM.

There’s a 512GB SSD and an Nvidia GeForce 940MX graphics card. The blog says it’ll have LTE, as well as Windows Hello support through the built-in webcam and fingerprint scanner.

In terms of ports, there’s USB-C access as well as a Thunderbolt 3 port and three traditional USB slots.

Just like Lenovo’s T-470 there’s added connectivity in the way of an SD card reader, HDMI out and an Ethernet port.

October-bound?

There’s no word yet on exactly when the ThinkPad 25 will join Lenovo’s line up, but as The Verge points out, the anniversary of the original’s launch is in October.

It has been quite a year for retro tech, with the SNES Classic and Nokia 3310 among the highlights.

Let’s hope the ThinkPad 25 is more the former than the latter.
