Lenovo Intros Slimline Multi-Device Adaptor

Charge your notebook, mobile phone and MP3 player all from one small device - awesome!

As a well known manufacturer of notebooks Lenovo is clearly no stranger when it comes to power bricks and thus it’s hardly surprising that the company might want to push for a bit of innovation in the area. On which basis it has produced the inspiringly named ThinkPad and IdeaPad 90W slim AC/DC adaptor.

Name aside, the device is actually rather cool, basically allowing you to charge your Lenovo notebook and a second device all from one slender power adaptor. How slender you ask? Well, Lenovo says it’s about half an inch thick and “roughly the size of a deck of cards” which is nice and specific, although likely as good an analogy as could be asked for.

The PSU will provide 90W of power and is compatible with all current and old ThinkPads and IdeaPads as well as numerous peripheral devices. A slew of adaptors will be available for charging everything from mobile phones to iPods and, rather usefully, these secondary devices can be plugged in at the same time as a notebook and charged simultaneously – although the dual-charging cable is an optional extra.

The cynic in me would obviously like to see Lenovo simply bundle this as standard with every new laptop it sells. However, as the company does need to make some money and of course the slim combo adaptor would make a great replacement for an older notebook’s ungainly power brick, I guess I can’t begrudge it too much. Considering the asking price of $119 (about £60) Lenovo isn’t exactly ripping its customers off either, so if you happen to own a ThinkPad and a mobile phone and find charging them useful, you could do worse than pick one up.
