LEGO’s new Roller Coaster set can be upgraded to power itself – and it’s massive

LEGO’s largest ever roller coaster set doesn’t just promise a build that’ll satisfy thrill-seekers; it’s upgradeable, too.

Joining the Carousel and Ferris Wheel in the brick-based fairground, the LEGO Creator Expert: Roller Coaster is simply epic.

It comprises 4124 pieces, stands 53cm (20”) high, is 88cm (34”) wide and 41cm (16”) deep. That’s going to be a meaty build.

There’s a fully functional chain-lift, two trains with low-friction wheels, and a 44-piece track consisting of seven different rail elements. Brand-new elements for this set include a 2x8x6 Rail Slope, 1x2x1 Bow Brick, plant leaves, stalks and flowers.

In addition to the coaster itself, the build includes a ticket booth, cotton candy cart, concession stand, height marker, and a covered boarding station with opening barriers and a control panel.

The 11 supplied minifigures have reversible heads, so you can choose a range of emotions appropriate to a sickening death-plummet on your coaster of doom. None of the minifigs are covered in printed vomit, sadly.

Possibly the most exciting thing about the LEGO Roller Coaster, however – at least for those who actually like to play with their sets – is the ability to upgrade it with LEGO BOOST or LEGO Power. This means you can watch it automatically power itself via a motorised chain lift, as well as adding realistic sound effects.

The LEGO Creator Expert: Roller Coaster (No.10261) is available directly from LEGO Stores and shop.lego.com from June 1, 2018.
