You’ll be able to drive this LEGO Batmobile with an app once you’ve built it
LEGO has announced an all new Batmobile that you’ll soon be able to both build and drive around thanks to a companion app.
LEGO is one of the few children’s toys that stays fun long into adulthood, but once you’ve built your latest creation it can become radically less fun to play with.
But this Batmobile has the potential to keep us much more entertained. Using a companion app you’ll be able to control its twin motors using a your smartphone, potentially saving the construction from a lifetime spent gathering dust on a shelf.
Better still, LEGO plans to upgrade the app later in the year with the ability to code in multiple commands, potentially opening the Batmobile up to a whole host of different capabilities. At the very least LEGO hopes that the functionality should help to teach kids the basics of coding.

A Batmobile is one thing, but we can’t wait to see what people start doing with the app and motors when they start building them into different form factors. Are we about to see the start of a new generation of Rube Goldberg machines? We sure hope so.
This LEGO creation (part of the Powered Up series of toys) is just one part of the company’s move into smart connected toys, which have included an ARKit companion app and LEGO Boost, which adds coding capabilities to the Danish building blocks.
