Laptops For The Footy Fan

Perfect present for the wife... or not.

So the new football season is upon us and already the usual trends are emerging: Man U start well (only to falter later), Arsenal start poorly (only to end impressively when it’s all too late), Chelsea start unconvincingly (before steamrollering all before them), Liverpool drop points at unfancied clubs (and continue to do so) and Newcastle’s defence show more whole holes than your average sieve (it wasn’t only Boomsong). Cashing in on all this annual merriment is Fujitsu Siemens.

The manufacturer of what I still believe to be the world’s most desirable laptop has decked out its AMILO Pi 1536 series in the colours of a bevy of European wannabes: Everton, Aston Villa, Spurs and perennial European chaff Celtic. Custom painted and lacquered for a hard finish the lids do look remarkably nice, though I have to say a Newcastle United model would be so much better.

Behind the logos of these traditional underachievers is a combination of components far more potent than anything the Midlands, Merseyside, Glasgow (opps – cheers edd_mac) or North London has recently pieced together with a 15.4in WXGA display, 120GB hard disk, Intel Core Duo T2400 CPU and 1GB of RAM coupled with a three year warranty.

All four are available immediately from the company’s dedicated site and more clubs are set to follow. Personally I kinda wished these laptops had been designed with hardware that matched their on pitch performance, but I hear the Fujitsu Siemens engineers were scared off by the prospect of sourcing 286 processors for Sunderland…
