LaCie Unveils Smallest 1TB Backup Drive

Apple inspired swankiness.

Our love for the Asus Eee PC 901 has recently restored our belief that good things do indeed come in small packages and LaCie’s latest looks set to improve our mood even further.

The cutely-named ‘Little Big Disk Quadra’ is the smallest 1TB dedicated external backup drive to date and while LaCie hasn’t thrown in the exact size and weight one look at the photo will tell you – unless this is the hand of a giant – this is a very portable device indeed.

Despite its teeny size, the Quadra is a speed machine too with purported data transfer rates of 110MBps using eSATA and 80MBps using FireWire 800. Furthermore although the model has an obvious synergy with the Mac line it is equipped with a USB2.0 port to go with the 2x FireWire 800 and single eSATA. Furthermore, since the whole unit is fanless it runs virtually silent.

As you’d expect, the Quadra is fully plug and play compatible with Time Machine on Mac OS X 10.5 as well as Windows XP and Vista and is bundled with backup and restore software plus LeCie’s own setup wizard.

Hitting the shelves (with a tiny thud) the Little Big Disk Quadra 1TB is available now for £399.99. If it is possible for storage to be stylish, then this is it…

”’Update:”’ Weight is approximately 500 grams, so certainly suitcase friendly.
