Konica Releases New Colour Lasers

Konica Minolta has added to its colour laser printer range with an entry-level and a workgroup unit.

Konica Minolta has released two new colour laser printers. The magicolor 2430DL is an entry level printer while the magicolor 5430 is aimed at workgroups.

The 2430DL is equipped with PictBridge enabling it to print colour pictures directly from a digital camera. Konica Minolta is the first printer manufacturer in the world to introduce PictBridge on the market for professional colour laser printers.

Printing speeds are given as five pages per minute in colour and 20 pages per minute in monochrome. The 2430DL offers an extra lower paper feeder holding 500 sheets (as a supplement to the standard paper feeder holding 200 sheets) and an automatic duplexer unit.

The printer settings can be selected through the built-in display and also via the network with the web-based Administrator tool “PageScope WEB Connection”. The magicolor 2430DL can also print on a wide spectrum of print media (up to 163 g/m2), transparencies, labels and envelopes.

The recommended retail price is £345 excluding VAT but the street price will be around £299 excluding VAT.

Aimed at the small and mid-size business sector, the 5430DL is is positioned between the company’s sub £250 entry-level printers (for the price and space sensitive) and its departmental offerings. Konica claims that the printer is the fastest colour and monochrome laser printer available for under £700.

The unit offer a 20 page-per-minute print speed, with networking as standard. Konica states that is stands out for its quiet operation and versatile paper handling.

The magicolor 5430DL offers three resolution settings up to 2400 x 600 dpi. Used in conjunction with Konica Minolta’s polymer toner and automatic colour matching calibration, Konica claims that the magicolor 5430 produces smooth halftones, detailed lines and text, and excellent colour. Unlike competitive colour printers, the magicolor 5430DL prints its rated speed regardless of the quality selected.

A 250-sheet multipurpose input cassette supports up to A4 media. The cassette is conveniently located for front loading and features a gauge that, at a glance, indicates the amount of paper inside. The printer accepts up to two additional 500-sheet input cassettes, bringing the input capacity to 1,250 sheets maximum. The optional cassettes accommodate sizes up to legal and install under the printer, maintaining the printer’s original footprint.

Adding optional cassettes is a plus for companies that frequently use more than one type of media (such as plain paper and letterhead) or use different sizes of paper. To handle the variety of printing the typical office performs, the magicolor 5430DL supports several media types, including plain, recycled, and heavy paper; transparencies; labels; glossy stock; and envelopes. For two-sided printing, an automatic duplexer is also available for the magicolor 5430DL (standard on DLD model). This option alone can provide significant savings to an organisation that performs heavy multiple-page printing.

Other useful features include an all-in-one, intelligent toner cartridges that combine the toner and OPC drum into one slide-in cartridge. For users, this means fewer supplies to store and replace. The intelligent cartridges also track page count and coverage data, providing accurate toner level reports and print statistics.

Auto-detect installation software automatically finds the printer on the network and steps users through the basic configuration options and Konica Minolta’s PageScope Web Connection (an embedded web page) and the desktop Status Monitor are two convenient methods of checking printer and supplies status and retrieving other real-time printer data. PageScope Web Connection also provides printer configuration and management from any browser.

The magicolor 5430DL ships with a one year warranty and a set of supplies, including cyan, magenta, yellow, and black all-in-one toner cartridges and waste toner box. The printer is available through Konica Minolta’s network of authorised dealers, distributors and e-commerce partners. The list price is £699 excluding VAT but the street price is likely to be around £599 ex VAT.
