Update 16:00: Konami has officially confirmed the upcoming Silent Hills game has been cancelled.
It’s been a busy day for Konami and the upcoming Silent Hills game. There’s been a lot of back and forth about whether or not the game is cancelled and now we finally know for sure.
“Konami is committed to new Silent Hills titles, however the embryonic ‘Silent Hills’ project developed with Guillermo del Toro and featuring the likeness of Norman Reedus will not be continued”, said Konami in a statement to Kotaku.
“In terms of Kojima and Del Toro being involved, discussions on future Silent Hill projects are currently underway, and please stay tuned for further announcements.”
The Silent Hills game was supposed to use the voice and likeness of Walking Dead star Norman Reedus and be a collaboration with director Guillermo del Toro.
It was a game a lot of horror game fans were truly excited about, so it’s a huge shame the game won’t ever make it to our consoles.
Update: Konami has responded to the Silent Hills cancellation claims, but we’re not convinced it’s great news.
As you can see below, there’s been mounting claims that the Silent Hills series has been cancelled.
Well, Konami has responded to those issues and has suggested that although the series may not be cancelled, it’s certainly undergoing some major changes.
“Our contract with Reedus has expired,” explained Konami to GameSpot.
Walking Dead star Norman Reedus was lending his face and his voice to the game, but obviously the game has taken a lot longer to make than either Reedus or Konami anticipated.
Konami wouldn’t speak specifically about P.T or the upcoming Silent Hills game but it did say:
“We will continue to develop the Silent Hills series”.
Original Story: Konami has announced that it is pulling popular PS4 horror game PT from the PlayStation Store on April 29, heralding the death of its ambitious Silent Hills project.
PT was designed to be a “playable teaser” of the forthcoming Silent Hills horror game. However, Konami has revealed on the game’s official site that “The distribution period of ‘PT (Playable Teaser)’ on PlayStation Store will expire on Wednesday, April 29, 2015.”
That’s this Wednesday.
But it’s the wider significance of this move that will most upset fans of Konami’s terrifying horror franchise. It’s another sign that Silent Hills is dead.
Silent Hills was to seen an ambitious creative team-up between Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima, Pan’s Labyrinth director Guillermo Del Toro, and Walking Dead actor Norman Reedus.
However, rumour has been rife in recent months that Kojima is parting ways with Konami in less than amicable circumstances, with all signs of the auteur’s influence seemingly being erased from both Silent Hills/PT and Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.

Sure enough, both Del Toro and Reedus have confirmed that Silent Hills is dead in recent days. Del Toro apparently said as much at a San Fransisco Film Society event over the weekend, to which Reedus tweeted “Super bummed about this was really looking forward to it. Hopefully it’ll come back around. Sorry everyone.”
So there you have it. It seems as if one of the most exciting and downright scary games in production for current-gen consoles is no more.
