Kindle Fire 2 Coming this August?

The Kindle Fire 2 tablet will reportedly be available next month, August 2012. It’s rumoured to use the same 7in screen size as the first Kindle Fire, but will likely have a spec boost or two to match the rival Google Nexus 7 tablet. What we’re hoping for most is that it’ll actually come to the UK this time.

According to China Times, the Kindle Fire 2 will start shipping out on August 7 from internet retail giant Amazon. The company has reportedly earmarked two million second-gen tablets for the launch from the manufacturer Quanta. This is in-line with the rumoured July 31 launch date for the new tablet – gone are the days of waiting month for gadgets to be delivered (unless you’re Microsoft).

The Amazon Kindle Fire 2 is expected to use a metal frame, but a plastic outer layer, and its screen is supplied by LG. Amazon’s first Kindle Fire uses a 1,024 x 600 pixel IPS screen, and our top bet is that the second will up this to 1,280 x 800, while maintaining the IPS screen type. This would match the display offered by the Asus-made Google Nexus 7.

With Apple also reportedly working on a 7-odd inch tablet due for release in 2012, this year could be remembered as the time smaller tablets started striking back. What do you think? Is 7in enough for a tablet?
